A gazebo with a porch: the entrance under a roof
At the front of this gazebo the glass is set slightly back, while the roof and the right-hand wall project forward. This creates a porch, a small covered area with a wooden floor. It plays the same role as the porch of a house: here you can take off your shoes, leave an umbrella, put a couple of chairs or a planter.
The porch also protects the entrance itself. When it rains, the water falls from the roof beyond the edge of the porch, and the glass and its lower part stay dry. When you open the glass in the rain, much less water gets inside, and the wind blowing low carries fewer leaves and less dust.
On the right the porch is bounded by an extended side wall. It creates shelter on one side and gives the porch coziness, so that it looks like a small outdoor living room right by the glass. On the left the porch is open, so you can step up onto it straight from the lawn.
The porch boards are laid crosswise and covered with a warm honey-colored finish. This shade stands out nicely next to the gray walls and is a reminder that this is a structure of natural wood. The photo shows that the edge of the porch is raised above the ground and rests on piles, so the boards do not touch damp soil.
A porch comes in handy in every season. In summer you can sit here in the shade when it is too warm inside, in spring and autumn you can shelter from the rain, and in winter you can shake off the snow before going in. It is a simple detail that makes a gazebo more convenient every day.
A gray exterior, a warm interior
The exterior walls are clad with horizontal boards and painted light gray, while the corner boards and the frames around the glass are a darker gray. This combination creates a tidy, contemporary look: the building looks light, and the darker outlines clearly define its shape.
Inside, everything is different. Through the glass you can see that the inner walls and the floor are left a warm honey color. Seen from outside, the gray exterior and the light wooden interior form a striking contrast, and when you step inside, the warmth of the wood wraps around you.
Gray suits many settings. In this photo the gazebo stands next to a red brick gate post, a yellow corrugated low fence, a white fence made of barrels and a metal storage building. Despite such a variety of colors, the gray gazebo looks calm and clashes with nothing around it.
The photo was taken on a gray day in early spring or late autumn, when the trees are still bare. Even then the gazebo looks neat and cozy, and the warm interior seen through the glass invites you in. In summer, when the lawn and trees around it turn green, the light gray color will look even fresher.
If your house is gray, white or graphite in color, such a gazebo will go well with it. The color and shade can also be chosen differently – they are agreed when you order.
Painted wood has a practical advantage too: opaque paint forms a continuous layer that protects the boards from the sun’s rays. Still, such a surface has to be watched and renewed in time so that the paint does not flake. More on this in the care section.
Large glass and side glazing
At the front, deep inside the porch, there is a large block of sliding glass made up of three panes in dark gray frames. It takes up almost the whole front wall, so the interior is very bright. On the left side another large pane of glass is set in, which lets you see the yard from the side.
The arrangement of the glass lets you use the gazebo in different ways. With the glass closed it becomes a bright room where you can sit on a cool day or in the rain. With the front glass opened, the interior merges with the porch and forms a single space, partly under the roof and partly enclosed.
The photo shows no furniture inside yet. This lets you judge the space: warm wooden walls, an even floor and plenty of light. The gazebo is compact, so a table with chairs for a few people or a lounge corner with armchairs would fit in comfortably.
The side glass on the left lets you see from inside not only the front but also the side of the yard. This matters in a small room: when light and a view come in from two sides, the space looks bigger, and the interior is not dark even on a cloudy day.
A mono-pitch roof with a wide overhang
The gazebo is covered with a mono-pitch roof whose edges are clad with dark gray sheet metal. The roof overhang at the front is wide, and from below it is covered with light boards. It not only covers the porch but also gives the building a clear, contemporary shape.
In summer the wide overhang casts a shadow on the glass, so the interior heats up less at midday. In spring and autumn, when the sun is lower, its rays reach the glass again and warm the room. It is a simple but effective way to regulate light without curtains.
The light boards on the underside of the overhang reflect light onto the porch, so it is not dark under the roof even on a cloudy day. In the evening this is a convenient place for a light that would illuminate both the porch and the entrance.
A mono-pitch roof is simple and reliable. Water runs off it to one side, and the surface is easy to inspect and clean. In addition, the low, straight outline of the roof goes well with modern houses.
A compact gazebo for a smaller plot
This gazebo is not large – it suits places where space is limited. In the photo it stands at the edge of the yard, next to a gate and a fence, so it does not hinder movement in the yard or take up the middle of the lawn. A compact structure with a porch can become a cozy corner even on a small city or suburban plot.
The whole gazebo is raised on piles – their orange ends can be seen under the edge of the porch. Such a foundation also suits uneven ground, and a gap is left between the ground and the floor for air to circulate. The photo was taken soon after construction, so soil piled up around it can still be seen – later it can be planted or covered with crushed stone.
Before building such a gazebo, consider which side the porch will be on. It is most convenient when it faces the yard or the path you usually come along, and the enclosed sides face the fence or the neighbors.
In a smaller gazebo it is especially important to think furniture through carefully. Folding chairs, a narrow table by the glass or a bench along the wall let you fit in more people and leave room to walk. Laukbaldis also makes solid oak garden furniture, the size of which can be adapted to the gazebo – you will find examples in the section oak garden and outdoor furniture.

Care and ordering No. 25-32
Painted walls are maintained somewhat differently from those covered with a clear coating. Dust, pollen and mud splashes show more on a light gray surface, so once or twice a year it is worth washing the walls with clean water and a soft brush. Every spring inspect the lower boards and the corners – where water splashes up from the ground, the layer of paint wears out fastest. It is better to repaint any damage you find in time, before moisture reaches the wood.
The porch floor, which stays the color of natural wood, is maintained like a terrace. It should be swept, and when the surface fades or becomes rough, it should be renewed with an oil or glaze made for exterior wood. Because the porch is under a roof, the boards wear more slowly than on an open terrace, but the edge that the rain reaches needs more attention.
Clean the tracks of the sliding glass of sand and leaves. In winter sweep the snow off the porch so that it does not melt on the boards and freeze at the bottom of the glass.
