Gazebo with a wooden floor and trunk columns No. 16-7

Gazebo with a wooden floor and trunk columns No. 16-7

In short: Gazebo with a wooden floor No. 16-7 is a completely open gazebo with no railings or walls, built on a spacious deck of boards that projects beyond the roof at the front. The hip shingle roof is held up by natural trunks with curved branch braces, and a table, chairs and benches stand inside. The size, finishing and equipment are agreed individually.

A gazebo with a wooden floor: open on every side

This gazebo is one of the simplest and at the same time most open Laukbaldis solutions. It has no low walls, no railings and no low fences. There are only a floor, trunks and a roof. Because of that the gazebo looks light, almost transparent, and from inside the whole garden can be seen in every direction.

A solution like this suits those who want no barriers between themselves and their surroundings. You can enter the gazebo from any side, furniture is easy to rearrange, and on a summer evening the wind blows freely through the interior. When more room is needed, guests can sit on the edge of the floor as well as in the chairs standing nearby.

An open gazebo does not create an enclosed space, so it also suits a smaller yard. It does not block the view, does not make the yard darker and does not look like an extra building. From afar you see only a roof on trunks, like a big umbrella over the garden furniture.

At the same time it is a real wooden structure and not a temporary tent. Sturdy trunks and a wooden roof are made to stand outdoors all year round. It does not have to be put up in spring and taken down in autumn like garden umbrellas or awnings.

A deck of boards wider than the roof

The most important part of this gazebo is the floor. The deck of boards is raised above the ground, and its edge is bordered by a base frame. At the front the floor projects farther than the edge of the roof, so a small open terrace forms in front of the gazebo. You can put a lounger, a chair or toys for the children there.

A wooden floor has many advantages over lawn or gravel. It is level, so furniture stands firmly and does not wobble. It is warm, so it is pleasant to walk on barefoot. After rain the floor dries quickly, and grass does not grow between the legs of the furniture. In addition, a deck clearly defines the borders of the gazebo and creates a cozy island in the yard.

A raised floor is well ventilated: air circulates between the ground and the boards, so the lower beams stay dry longer. The edge of the floor is slightly above the lawn, so you step into the gazebo as onto a low step.

In the photo the boards are still light and natural in color: the gazebo is new. Over time, depending on the protective coating chosen, they will take on a richer shade.

It is worth calculating the area of the floor from the furniture. Think about what length of table you will need, how much room must remain to pull out the chairs and how much for walking around. If you want an open terrace part, add as much as needed for a lounger or a few chairs. These numbers are easy to discuss over the phone.

Trunks with curved braces and a shingle roof

The roof is held up by natural peeled trunks. Curved branch braces are fixed to the tops of them, joining the trunks to the roof beams. The central front trunk divides at the top, and the right corner trunk is bent like a bow. Each has its own shape, so the gazebo looks alive. Natural trunks are different every time, so your gazebo will be similar to the one in the photo but inevitably unique: the craftsmen choose wood of similar thickness, but its pattern is determined by nature.

The curved braces not only decorate but also stiffen the structure. Since the gazebo has no walls or railings, it is the braces that keep it from swaying in the wind. This is a good illustration of how the natural shape of the wood can do structural work as well.

The hip roof is covered with wooden shingles that over time take on a grayish, silvery shade. The ridges are covered with wider boards, and the roof projects well beyond the trunks. This overhang casts a wide shadow and protects the table from slanting rain. Laukbaldis makes shingles for roofs, so the covering can be discussed together with the whole structure.

The open structure can be seen under the roof: beams, rafters and the round rafter ends projecting beyond the edge of the roof. There is no ceiling, so there is a lot of space above the table, and in summer heat does not build up under the roof. It is handy to hang a lamp over the table from the beams: in the evening it will light the whole gazebo.

Furniture and the surroundings in the yard

Inside stand a long table, two chairs with backrests and benches. The furniture is the same warm shade as the wood of the gazebo, so the whole picture looks unified. Since the gazebo is open, the furniture can be freely rearranged: push the table to the edge when more room is needed, or carry the chairs out onto the terrace part.

UAB “Laukbaldis” makes its furniture of solid oak, and it is created by experienced craftsmen. The table, chairs and benches can be ordered together with the gazebo so that their size matches the area of the floor.

In the photo the gazebo stands in a suburban garden, by a dark wooden lattice fence with a curved top. On the right a path laid with stones can be seen, and by the edge of the floor a small lamp on a stand. The fence creates a cozy backdrop and shields the gazebo from the neighbors, so the gazebo itself needs no walls.

It is a good example of how an open gazebo can get privacy not from its own walls but from its surroundings. A fence, a hedge or shrubs behind it do the same job, while the gazebo itself stays light and open. If your yard has no such fence, privacy can be given to the gazebo itself, for example by building a lattice wall on one side for climbing plants.

Who an open gazebo with a floor suits

An open gazebo with a floor is useful in a variety of yards. It suits:

  • families who eat outdoors in summer and want a permanent place for a table;
  • yards where you want shade but not an enclosed structure;
  • gardens where the gazebo has to go with the plants and not block the view;
  • children playing on a level, warm floor under a roof.

When choosing a spot, think about the sun and the wind. The wind blows right through an open gazebo, so in a windy place it is worth putting it in the lee of the house, a fence or trees. If it will stand in an open place, shrubs or climbers can be planted on one side later.

Also think about whether you want an open terrace part in front of the gazebo. It is handy for sun lovers, but this part, like any floor under the open sky, has to be looked after more often.

An open gazebo is useful not only in summer. In spring it is pleasant to sit on the warm floor in the first sun, and in autumn garden furniture can be kept under the roof so that it does not get wet. In winter it is worth making sure a thick layer of snow does not build up on the roof and the floor, and in spring to get the gazebo ready again it is enough to sweep off the leaves, inspect the wood and carry out the cushions.

Ordering and care

Laukbaldis shows only typical examples, so before calling think about the size of the gazebo, the area of the floor and whether you will need railings on at least one side. If your yard has a slope, tell us about it: the base solution depends on it. Also say whether you would like lighting by the gazebo.

Outdoor wooden floors suffer most from moisture and the sun. Once a year inspect the boards, especially the part that is not under the roof. If the surface has turned pale or has begun to absorb water, renew the protective coating made for exterior wood. Sweep leaves and sand off the floor so that they do not collect in the gaps between the boards. The bottoms of the trunks and the joints of the branch braces are also worth inspecting more carefully.

You will find more examples in the section wooden gazebos. Similar works are the gazebo with an asphalt shingle roof No. 16-3, the natural-wood gazebo No. 16-1 and the windbreak shelter with a terrace No. 15-5. Look for tables, chairs and benches in the section oak garden and outdoor furniture.

UAB “Laukbaldis” has made wooden products since 1996 and, as the company states, was the first in Lithuania to start making this production. Call +370 687 25388 and quote No. 16-7. During the call you will discuss the size, the area of the floor, the roofing and the furniture. The website shows only typical examples, so feel free to ask about changes: railings on one side, a different area of floor or a different roofing.

Frequently asked questions

Does an open gazebo not need railings?

In the photo the gazebo is completely open, with no railings or low walls. If you wish, railings or a low wall can be added on one side, and this is discussed when you order.

Why is the floor wider than the roof?

The part of the floor that projects at the front becomes a small open terrace. It is handy for putting a lounger or a chair and enjoying the sun.

Are wooden floors suitable outdoors?

Yes, if they are raised above the ground and regularly looked after. Inspect the boards every year and, if needed, renew the protective coating.

Does the gazebo not wobble without walls?

The structure is stiffened by the curved branch braces between the trunks and the roof beams. It is they that do the stiffening in an open gazebo.

Is furniture included in the order?

In the photo the furniture shows one possible way to furnish it. The table, chairs and benches can be ordered together with the gazebo.
