Wooden gazebo with glass and profiled columns No. 25-12

Wooden gazebo with glass and profiled columns No. 25-12

In short: Wooden gazebo with glass No. 25-12 is a gazebo under a hip roof whose front and left side are glazed with sliding glass, while the right wall is closed and made of horizontal boards. The roof is held up by light profiled posts with carved braces, and a strip of wooden floor runs around the glass. Inside you can see a table with two benches; the size and equipment are agreed individually.

A wooden gazebo with glass in a classic form

This gazebo is one of the classic designs by Laukbaldis. It has no natural trunks or other unexpected shapes: all the columns are straight and planed, and symmetrical braces join their tops to the roof beam. This architecture recalls the porches and verandas of old Lithuanian farmsteads, so the gazebo fits easily next to either a wooden or a brick house.

The hip roof is covered with brown tiles and extends widely beyond the walls. Beneath it runs a broad eaves board, supported in the corners by the columns. The roof is low and even, so the gazebo looks calm and well proportioned, without any excess of decoration.

All the wood is covered with a light, yellowish honey-colored coating. It brings out the grain and the knots of the wood, and on a sunny day the gazebo simply glows against the lawn. The glass frames are dark brown, so they stand out clearly and emphasize the geometry of the glass walls.

The photo is not new, but it shows well what a gazebo of this type looks like right after it has been built: earth that has been piled up can still be seen around it, and a few round stones lie by the corner, which can later become part of a flower bed.

Profiled columns and braces

The columns are posts of square cross-section whose surface is not uniform over the whole height. About halfway up they are profiled: one part is narrower, the other wider, and the transition between them is beveled. This makes the columns look lighter and more decorative than plain posts, although they are just as strong.

At the top of each column two diagonal braces are fixed, resting against the roof beam. They strengthen the structure and at the same time form a Y-shaped silhouette that is clearly visible from the front. The ends of the braces are carved in a curved line, so even this technical detail becomes an ornament.

At the front the columns do not stand level with the glass itself but on the edge of the strip of floor. This leaves a narrow covered walkway between the columns and the glass, a sort of gallery around the gazebo. You can walk around the gazebo along it with dry feet even in the rain.

The number and arrangement of the columns depend on the size of the gazebo. In the photo the columns divide the front facade into clear sections, and glass panels are set between them. A larger gazebo may need more columns and a smaller one fewer; this is discussed when you order.

The glass here is fitted on two sides, while the third, the right, is closed. This way the gazebo is completely open to the view on one side and sheltered from wind or neighbors’ eyes on the other.

In the photo the gazebo stands in an open place, on a lawn beyond which fields stretch and a few large trees grow. In such a place the glass is especially valuable: it lets you see a wide horizon but holds back the wind, which in open country is often stronger than in a built-up yard. Because the glass takes up two sides of the gazebo, there is enough light inside from morning to evening.

A table with benches and room for the family

Through the glass you can clearly see a long wooden table and two benches with backrests. The legs of the benches are crossed in an X shape, and the backrests are wide and slightly reclined, so it is comfortable to sit at such a table for a long time. The furniture is the same light color as the gazebo, so the whole picture looks unified.

The table is placed lengthwise, through the middle of the gazebo, and there is still room around it to walk past. This shows that the space is sufficient for family dinners or a small celebration. If you plan to have more guests, the size of the gazebo can be increased: the size is agreed individually.

Such a gazebo suits various needs:

  • family lunches and dinners outdoors, whatever the weather;
  • meetings with friends, when the evening drags on and turns cool;
  • children’s board games or doing homework in the fresh air;
  • quiet breakfasts, when the grass is still damp with dew.

Laukbaldis also makes oak garden furniture, so the table and benches can be ordered together with the gazebo and chosen to suit its size.

The closed wall and sliding glass

The right wall of the gazebo is built of horizontal boards. It closes the gazebo on the side from which the wind most often blows or where the neighboring plot is. Inside, next to this wall, it is handy to put a cabinet for dishes or a shelf for small items.

Sliding glass is fitted at the front and on the left side. It can be pushed aside to open the gazebo when it is warm outside, or closed when it starts to rain or the wind rises. Because the glass slides along tracks, it needs no room to open, so the table can be placed close to the glass.

The covered strip of floor around the glass protects its lower part from rain splashes. The roof with its wide overhang holds back most of the rain, so the glass stays clean longer.

When choosing a place in the yard, think about which way to turn the closed wall. It is best turned towards the road, the neighboring plot or the prevailing wind, with the glass facing the garden, the pond or another beautiful view. That way the gazebo does both jobs: it protects and it opens.

Light-colored wood and its care

A light, yellowish coating on the wood looks cheerful and goes well with a green lawn. On the other hand, light surfaces show dirt faster, so it is worth washing the gazebo now and then with water and a soft brush. If you would like a darker or different shade, the color can be discussed when you order.

Inspect the wood every spring. When the surface turns pale, becomes rough or water no longer beads up, the protective coating needs renewing with a product for exterior wood. Look especially carefully at the bottoms of the columns and the edges of the strip of floor, where the wood stays damp the longest. It is also worth inspecting the joints of the braces with the columns and the roof beam, because water can get into them.

Clean the tracks of the sliding glass of sand and leaves, and wash the glass with ordinary window-cleaning products. In autumn sweep the leaves off the roof and the floor, and in winter clear a thick layer of snow.

If furniture is kept in the gazebo over winter, leave a little gap between it and the walls so that air can circulate. In spring, before the first celebration, it is enough to air the gazebo, wipe the table and wash the glass.

Ordering: from the photo to your yard

Laukbaldis shows only typical examples, so this photo is an idea that can be adapted to your plot. Before you call, think about how many people will usually sit at the table, which sides should be glazed and what color of wood will go with the house.

It is worth deciding on the site in advance: it should be level and dry, with no water standing after rain. In the photo you can see that an area of ground has been prepared around the gazebo, where a path, a flower bed or a lawn can appear later. The solution for the base is best discussed by phone, because it depends on the soil of the plot and the size of the gazebo.

Call +370 687 25388 and quote No. 25-12. During the conversation you will agree on the size, the glazing, the roof covering, the finishing and the furniture. UAB “Laukbaldis” has made wooden products since 1996 and, as the company states, was the first in Lithuania to start making this production.

For comparison, take a look at the gazebo with a table and benches No. 25-12.1 and the gazebo with trunk columns No. 25. You will find all the examples in the section wooden gazebos.

Frequently asked questions

How do profiled columns differ from natural trunks?

Profiled columns are straight planed posts with a carved transition and braces at the top, so the gazebo looks classic. Natural trunks keep the curves and branches of the tree. Both options suit houses of different styles, so it is worth choosing according to your yard.

Are the table and benches included in the set?

The photo shows a table with two benches inside, but that is just one of the possible ways of furnishing. Whether the furniture is ordered together is agreed individually. Laukbaldis makes oak garden furniture, so it can be chosen according to the size of the gazebo.

Can the right wall be glazed too?

Yes, the extent of the glazing is discussed when you order. In the photo the right wall is closed and made of horizontal boards, because it shelters from the wind and gives privacy.

Can I choose a darker color of wood?

Yes, the shade of the wood is agreed with the customer. The light coating seen in the photo looks cheerful, while a darker one goes better with dark roofs and facades.

What is the strip of floor around the glass for?

The strip of floor forms a covered walkway around the gazebo and protects the bottom of the glass from splashes. The columns stand on it too, so their bottoms do not touch the ground. You can walk around the gazebo along it with dry feet even in the rain.
