Gazebo with a sauna under a single hip roof No. 23

Gazebo with a sauna under a single hip roof No. 23

In short: Gazebo with a sauna No. 23 is an elongated wooden building with a covered relaxation area with a wooden floor and diagonal braces on one side and an enclosed sauna section with a small window on the other. Both parts are covered by a single hip roof, from which a chimney pipe protrudes. The size, finishing and equipment are agreed individually with each customer.

A gazebo with a sauna: two purposes in one building

Many owners of farmsteads and homes wonder what to build first, a gazebo or a sauna. This example shows that both wishes can be combined. The photo shows a single building under one roof: on the left an open but roofed relaxation space, on the right an enclosed section which, according to the product name, is intended for the sauna.

Such a solution is convenient every day. After the sauna you do not have to cross the whole yard: just a few steps and you are already sitting under a roof, in the fresh air, with a cup of tea. The gazebo section becomes a natural relaxation zone between sauna sessions, and in summer it also serves as an outdoor dining room or a place for guests.

The building is low, with horizontal lines, so it does not overpower the plot. The dark gray hip roof with gutters, the warm honey-colored walls and the gray corner trim strips make a calm, contemporary combination. From a distance it resembles a small summerhouse, but its layout is adapted for relaxation, not for living.

The photo was taken on an overcast summer day, with birches and a deciduous wood greening behind the building. The building looks new and tidy: the boards are smooth and freshly finished, and a paving-block yard has already been laid around it and a row of thujas planted. It is a good illustration of how a sauna with a gazebo looks complete once the surroundings have been put in order.

How the building is divided

In the photo the building is seen from the front and slightly from the side, so you can judge fairly accurately how it is divided.

PartWhat the photo shows
Gazebo sectionOn the left, under the roof, with a wooden floor
Posts with bracesYes, at the front of the gazebo section
Glass sectionsYes, tall, in dark frames
Enclosed sauna sectionOn the right, clad with horizontal boards
Small windowYes, small, horizontal
Chimney pipe on the roofYes
Rain guttersYes

In the gazebo section, under the roof, stand chairs. The enclosed section takes up the larger part of the length of the building and has only one small horizontal window with a gray frame, set above eye level. Such small windows are typical of saunas: they let in daylight but keep privacy and let little heat out.

The open section with posts and braces

The roof of the gazebo section is held up by straight wooden posts. At the top of each post two diagonal braces are fixed, so from the front the post with its braces resembles the letter Y. This is not only attractive: the braces strengthen the joint between the post and the roof beam.

The floor is wooden, raised above the paving blocks. Chairs, a table or loungers fit on it. Because the space is covered by a roof, furniture can be left here even in light rain, and on a sunny day you can find shade. Behind the posts there are tall glass sections in dark frames, which separate the open part from the enclosed room and let a lot of light into it.

At the left end of the building you can see that the covered section also opens to the side. So it can be entered from two sides. On the floor by the entrance stands a wooden chair with a high back, a small detail showing that this place is already used for relaxing.

This section can be adapted to your needs. For some the most important thing is a place to cool off after the sauna, for others a space for summer dinners. The size and furniture of the covered section are chosen accordingly. Laukbaldis also makes oak outdoor furniture, so a table, benches or chairs can be ordered together.

The sauna side: closed wall, window and chimney

The right side of the building is completely different. It is closed, clad with horizontal wooden boards, and the corners and wall joints are covered with gray trim strips. On the wall you can see a round wall lamp, which lights the path by the building in the evening.

Lighting by the sauna is not a minor matter. People often go to the sauna after dark, so light by the entrance and along the path helps you walk safely with wet bare feet or a towel over your shoulders. It is worth planning lamps in advance so that the cables are hidden and tidy.

A metal chimney pipe protrudes from the roof. This is a sign that heating is planned in the building, but the interior is not shown in the photo, so the type of stove, the sauna equipment and the interior finishing have to be discussed separately. It is important to know that Laukbaldis shows only typical examples: the size of the sauna, the number of rooms and the fitting-out are agreed with each customer.

Horizontal boards suit exterior walls well: rainwater runs quickly down their surface, and the rows are straight and tidy. The gray corner strips not only decorate but also cover the ends of the boards, which absorb the most moisture outdoors.

Why choose a sauna with a gazebo

A sauna and a gazebo under one roof have several clear advantages compared with two separate buildings:

  • Less space taken up. One elongated building looks tidier on a plot than two small ones.
  • Comfortable relaxation. You get from the sauna to the gazebo in a few steps, with no need to walk across wet grass.
  • One roof. A single hip roof with gutters covers both parts, so the building looks unified.
  • Use all year round. The sauna is used in winter too, and the covered section next to it comes in handy in any season.

In the photo the building stands on a paving-block yard, by a birch grove, next to a row of thujas. It is tidy and clean all around, and the building is easy to drive or walk up to. Such a place is convenient because the way to the sauna and the gazebo stays clean in any weather.

If you plan to build a gazebo and a sauna over a few years, it is worth considering whether it would not be simpler to build one common building straight away. One roof, one base and unified architecture often look tidier than several structures built at different times.

What to discuss when ordering a sauna and a gazebo under one roof

Since every project is agreed individually, it is worth thinking about a few things before calling:

  1. how many people will usually use the sauna and the gazebo;
  2. what the ratio of the sizes of the gazebo section and the sauna section should be;
  3. whether the gazebo section will be open or partly glazed;
  4. what sauna equipment and heating are needed;
  5. where the building will stand and what its base will be.

It is useful to consider the orientation of the building in advance, too. Often the gazebo section is turned towards the sunny side with a pleasant view, and the sauna wall with its small window towards the neighbors or the street. That way the relaxation zone stays cozy, and privacy is kept in the sauna. If the plot is uneven, the base and the floor height will have to be adapted on site.

For comparison, look at other works too: the modern gazebo with a mono-pitch roof and a terrace No. 25-36, the garden gazebo with a storage shed and branching trunks No. 25-7 and the gazebo with a covered terrace No. 25-2. You will find more gazebos in the section wooden gazebos, and separate saunas and summerhouses in the section saunas and summerhouses.

Care and ordering

A wooden building outdoors is most affected by moisture and sun. Protect the walls and floor with a coating made for exterior wood and renew it when the surface becomes paler. In the sauna section more moisture forms, so it is worth airing it after each use and inspecting the joints of the door and the window from time to time. The drier the wood between uses, the longer it keeps its good looks and does not change color. Clean the gutters of leaves once or twice a year, especially if birches grow nearby.

It is worth inspecting the roof by the chimney pipe every spring: check that the joint is tidy and that leaves do not collect around it. Sweep sand and leaves off the floor of the gazebo section, and snow in winter. Wash the glass sections with ordinary window-cleaning products.

UAB “Laukbaldis” has been making wooden products since 1996 and, according to the company, was the first in Lithuania to start making this production. The company is based in Dapkiškių village, Tauragės district. To order a similar building, call and quote No. 23. You will discuss the size, the layout, the sauna equipment, the glazing and the finishing, and the photo will become a starting point for your project. If you have a plan of the plot or photos of the place, have them ready, as it makes it easier to decide where best to build the building and which way to turn the relaxation section.
