Glazed gazebo with tree-trunk columns No. 24-3

Glazed gazebo with tree-trunk columns No. 24-3

In short: Glazed gazebo No. 24-3 is a wooden gazebo with a hip roof, two sides of which can be closed with sliding glass in black frames, while naturally curved tree trunks hold up the roof at the corners. In the photo it stands on a paving-block platform at the edge of a pine wood. The size, finishing and equipment are agreed individually with each customer.

A glazed gazebo at the edge of a pine wood

The photo was taken on a sunny summer day, when bright light falls through the tops of tall pines. The gazebo stands in the open, next to a meadow and shrubs, with a forest stretching behind it. In such surroundings the glass seems to disappear: it reflects the greenery, so the structure neither blocks the view nor looks heavy.

Three things catch the eye at first glance: the dark, low hip roof, the light trunks curved by nature at the corners, and the large planes of glass between them. The front consists of four glass sections and the side of several more, so seen from the corner the gazebo looks almost transparent. The black frames are narrow and do not overpower the wood.

The trunks are not all alike. At the front right corner stands a branching trunk resembling the letter Y, while the others are slimmer and gently curved. Small shelves are fixed to several columns, handy for a cup, a candle or a phone when you sit at the edge of the terrace.

This contrast is what gives the gazebo its character. The glass and black frames look contemporary, while the debarked but unplaned trunks are a reminder that the structure is made of wood and not assembled from factory parts. Against the pine background this looks natural: the columns repeat the line of the surrounding trees, and the glass reflects the sky and the branches.

Construction details up close

Under the edge of the roof you can see a row of round rafter ends. They protrude beyond the walls and create a rhythm that goes with the trunk columns: the natural shape of the wood is kept everywhere. The roof is covered with a dark gray material whose pattern resembles small tiles, and its overhangs are wide enough for rainwater to run off away from the glass.

The floor is made of wooden boards painted a dark, warm shade. The floor base is wider than the line of the glass, so a narrow wooden edge forms around the gazebo. You can step onto it as onto a low step, and you enter the gazebo slightly above the level of the platform. Through the glass you can see the empty interior and the dark back wall.

Why the gazebo stands on a paving-block platform

A neat paving-block platform has been laid under the gazebo, and at its edges it turns into gravel and lawn. This solution has several advantages. First, the floor is separated from the damp ground by a hard, even surface, so less moisture collects under it. Second, the grass by the entrance is not trampled and no mud forms, even if the gazebo is used every day. Third, a paving-block platform is easy to connect to a path from the house.

A platform is not compulsory: such a gazebo can be built on a different base too. The most important thing is that the base is level and firm. When the structure stands straight, the sliding glass runs smoothly along the tracks without sticking or tilting. Which base suits your plot is best discussed before production.

One more small detail: in the photo the platform is slightly larger than the gazebo itself. A strip is left all around, which lets you walk round the structure, wash the glass from the outside or put down a pot of flowers. It is worth leaving such a margin when planning your own yard.

How to use a glazed garden gazebo all year round

The roof protects from sun and rain, and the glass lets you choose how open the gazebo will be. So you can use it not only in July but also when an open gazebo would already be too cool.

  • In spring, closed glass keeps out the wind while the sun warms the interior through it. It is a pleasant place to drink morning coffee while there is still dew on the meadow.
  • In summer, the sections can be pushed aside so you can sit as in an open gazebo, but under a roof that shields you from the heat.
  • In autumn, a glazed gazebo becomes a place from which you can watch the rain or the yellowing trees without getting wet.
  • In winter, it can simply be a quiet corner on a dry, sunny day, if the path to it has been cleared.

On a sunny day the air heats up behind the glass, so in summer it is worth opening at least one side and letting the wind blow through. The shade of the pines helps here: the shadow of the trees covers the roof and glass for part of the day, so it does not become stuffy inside so quickly. In the evening, when it cools, the sections can be closed again and the warmth will last longer.

Because the gazebo in the photo is empty, you can clearly see how much free space is left inside. It can be furnished to your needs: a large table with benches for family dinners, soft furniture for relaxing or a work desk. Laukbaldis also makes oak garden furniture, so the furniture can be ordered together.

What to decide before making a gazebo with sliding glass

The website shows only typical examples, so this photo is an idea to start the conversation from. Before calling, it is worth preparing answers to a few questions:

  1. How many people will usually be in the gazebo, and what furniture do you want to put in it?
  2. Which sides should be glazed? Two are glazed in the photo, but the decision depends on where the best view is on your plot and where the wind usually comes from.
  3. What color of frames will suit the house better? Black frames look contemporary and strict, while dark brown ones blend more with the wood.
  4. Will the columns be natural trunks at all corners? Every trunk is different, so the final look depends on the wood available.
  5. Do you need small shelves on the columns? They are small, but useful every day when you want somewhere to put a cup or a lantern.
  6. What base will the gazebo stand on, and will you prepare it yourself?

Other works in this series will help you compare options: the gazebo next to the house with a massive trunk No. 25-11.2, the gazebo with glass among fruit trees No. 25-1 and the gazebo with sliding glass and trunk columns No. 25. You will find all the examples in the section wooden gazebos, and furniture for the interior among the oak garden and outdoor furniture.

Care when pines grow around

A pine wood is a beautiful but demanding environment. Needles and cones will fall on the roof, and in spring yellow pollen will settle on the glass. There is nothing to worry about, it just takes a little more attention to maintenance than in an open spot.

It is worth inspecting the roof overhangs and edges once or twice a year and clearing off the needles so that they do not pile up and hold moisture. The tracks of the sliding glass should be cleaned of sand and needles, and then the sections slide easily. The glass can be washed with ordinary window-cleaning products.

Outdoors, wood ages from moisture and the sun’s ultraviolet rays. When the surface becomes paler or rough, it is time to renew the coating made for exterior wood. Trunk columns need more attention: water can stay in the places where limbs branch and in cracks. Small cracks that appear as the wood dries are natural. If pine resin has dripped onto the wood, it is better to wipe it off before it soaks in.

It is useful to sweep the edge of the floor around the gazebo, where people walk most, clear of needles and sand so that they do not scratch the surface or get into the tracks.

Ordering: just quote No. 24-3

UAB “Laukbaldis” has been making wooden products since 1996 and, as the company itself states, was the first in Lithuania to start making this production. The company is based in Dapkiškių village, Tauragės district.

To order a similar gazebo, call and quote No. 24-3. That will make it clear at once which example you mean. During the conversation you will discuss the size, the number of glazed sides, the color of the frames and roof covering, the columns and the base. If you have photos of your plot, they will help us understand more quickly where the gazebo will stand and from which side the best view opens.

Since every order is agreed individually, the final gazebo may differ from the photo: it may be larger, have more or fewer panes, or wood of a different shade. The most important thing is that it suits your yard and is comfortable to use every day.

If you are still unsure whether to choose a glazed or an open gazebo, you can talk about that by phone too. Sometimes it is enough to glaze one windy side, and sometimes it is best to close all the sides that face the open field.

Frequently asked questions

How many sides of gazebo No. 24-3 are glazed?

In the photo two sides are closed with sliding glass: the front and a side. How many sides will be glazed in your gazebo is discussed when you order, because the size and equipment are agreed individually.
